Houston Nia Collective at The Houston Food Bank

A small, but mighty, team of our community members met recently at the Houston Food Bank to lend a helping hand during Hunger Action Month. We were able to assist in the Elder Care aisle, putting together boxes of nonperishable goods that supplement nourishment for our mature Houstonians in need.

The Houston Food Bank is a well-oiled machine, and we can joyfully report that we helped in boxing over 11,000 meals for our community!

The atmosphere created by the Houston Food Bank staff was inspiring. As we worked with fellow volunteers, we were treated to a mix of upbeat music and almost EVERYONE was dancing (or at least bopping their heads) through volunteering! What a delight for us to witness!

It was empowering to experience the positive impact volunteering has on the community, and it was good for a sense of wellbeing, too. Nia is dancing with purpose and we extended that purpose to help reduce hunger in Houston. We also experienced how the practical movement of Nia, inspired by The Body’s Way, helped our bodies efficiently (and safely!) maneuver and lift as we quickly filled boxes with food on an assembly line!

We look forward to making this a recurring event, and hope that you will consider joining us next time.
